From prep to cure time, here's what to expect when transforming your floors with epoxy—plus tips to get ready for a flawless install.

You’ve made the decision—no more dusty, cracked, hard-to-clean floors. Whether it’s your garage, commercial space, or sunroom, epoxy flooring is the upgrade that delivers on both looks and performance.

But what actually happens once you say “yes” to epoxy?

At Surface & Concrete Design Solutions, we believe great floors start with clear expectations. That’s why we’re walking you through what to expect during your epoxy floor installation—plus simple prep tips to make the process smooth from start to finish.

Step 1: Free On-Site Consultation & Quote

We start with a conversation and a close-up look.

Whether we’re working with a residential garage or a commercial facility, we always schedule a free site visit to assess your existing concrete, discuss design options, and make sure we understand your needs. We’ll measure the space, evaluate the condition of the surface, and provide a custom quote—usually within 24 hours.

✅ What you can do:

  • Clear as much of the space as possible

  • Let us know your goals: Do you want slip-resistance? A specific color? Quick turnaround?

Step 2: Surface Prep (The Secret to Long-Lasting Floors)

This is the most important part of the entire process.

Before epoxy can be applied, your concrete has to be properly prepped. That means:

  • Mechanically grinding the surface to open pores and remove contaminants

  • Repairing cracks or spalling (we fill these as needed)

  • Moisture testing to ensure adhesion

Prep typically takes 1 day, depending on the size and condition of the space. Skipping this step is how cheap jobs fail—and we don’t do cheap.

✅ What you can do:

  • Make sure water, power, and access are available

  • Keep pets or foot traffic away during prep

Step 3: Epoxy Application (Where the Magic Happens)

Once your surface is prepped, it’s go-time.

Depending on your chosen system (flake, metallic, solid color), your epoxy installation will involve:

  • A base coat of high-grade epoxy

  • Optional flake broadcast or metallic swirl design

  • A top coat that seals and protects the surface

We apply each layer with care, ensuring full coverage, color consistency, and a professional finish. Most projects are completed in 1-2 days depending on size and design complexity.

✅ What you can do:

  • Avoid stepping on the floor until we give the all-clear

  • Have your final color or design decisions ready before install day

Step 4: Curing & Walk-On Time

Your new epoxy floor needs time to cure before it’s ready for use.

  • Light foot traffic: 24 hours after completion

  • Vehicle traffic: 72 hours (for garage installs)

  • Full chemical cure: 5–7 days

We’ll provide a care sheet at the end of your project so you know exactly how to maintain your new floor and get the most life out of it.

✅ What you can do:

  • Hold off on driving or placing heavy items for the recommended cure time

  • Ask us about long-term care tips—epoxy is low maintenance, but a little care goes a long way

Step 5: Enjoy a Floor That Works as Hard as You Do

After a few days of drying and patience, you’re left with a floor that:

  • Resists oil, stains, and chemicals

  • Stands up to hot tires and heavy equipment

  • Looks incredible with minimal upkeep

  • Lasts for years—and comes backed by a 10-year warranty
