02Patios

Stamped concrete patios

Outdoor Living, Finished

A stamped patio turns a plain slab into the surface the rest of the yard is arranged around. It works for screened and open patios, courtyards, and extensions onto outdoor living space you already have.

Screened patios are common across Central Florida, and enclosure footings can affect how the slab edges are formed and detailed.

Pattern, Scale and Layout

Pattern scale is chosen against the size of the space. Borders and bands break up a large field so it does not read as one repeated unit.

Control joints get planned into the layout before the pour, which is the detail that separates a considered patio from a stamped one.

  • Screened and open patios
  • Borders and bands
  • Joints planned into layout
  • Color matched to the house
  • Sample approved first

Stamping is one branch of our decorative concrete work, and a pattern that looks right on a sample board can read as obviously repeated across four hundred square feet.

03Beyond the patio

Driveways, pool decks and walkways

  • Driveways

Vehicle-rated thickness, planned jointing, and the apron transition where the slab meets the street.

  • Pool Decks

Texture chosen for wet traction and barefoot comfort, with lighter colors to manage surface temperature.

  • Walkways and Paths

Side yards, garden paths and the connections between the spaces you actually use.

  • Entries and Steps

Landings, risers and the nosing detail where a stamped pattern meets a step edge.

  • Courtyards

Larger fields where borders, bands and scoring organize the space into readable sections.

  • Vertical and Wall Faces

Seat walls, retaining faces and column bases stamped to match the horizontal surface.

Pool decks ask the most of a stamped surface: the pattern has to look right and the texture has to perform wet, at the same time. We plan for both from the first conversation, not as an afterthought.

04Patterns

Patterns

  • Ashlar Slate

A rectangular cut-stone pattern in mixed sizes, and a popular starting point for driveways and patios alike.

  • Cobblestone

Rounded irregular units with a European look that suits older and traditional homes.

  • Brick

Running bond, herringbone and basketweave layouts, matched to the brick you already have.

  • Wood Plank

Barnwood and woodgrain texture, popular on patios and pool decks across the metro.

  • Seamless Stone

Texture without repeating joints, which reads more like architecture than like a stamp.

  • Travertine and Bluestone

Natural stone looks that coordinate with the pavers and coping already in place.

These are patterns we install across Central Florida — see finished examples in the gallery below.

A pattern name tells you very little on its own. Finished-project photographs show pattern scale and repetition more clearly than a small sample alone.

05Color

Colors and finish

How Color Is Built Up

Integral color or a color hardener carries the base field. A release or antiquing agent is then worked into the texture, which is what creates depth.

That layering is what keeps stamped concrete from reading as a flat painted surface — a single flat color skips it.

Sealer and Sheen

A penetrating matte sealer keeps the surface looking like stone. A wet-look film sealer deepens the color and adds gloss, at the cost of showing more wear between resealings.

Hand-applied color varies by nature. The sample establishes the expected appearance and the range, and you approve it before we order material.

  • Integral color or hardener
  • Release and antiquing
  • Warm site-related neutrals
  • Matte or wet-look sealer
  • Sample approved first

Color that works against Florida stucco, barrel tile and existing pavers is a different palette from what reads well in a northern catalog.

06Scope

New pour or existing slab?

This page covers newly poured, patterned concrete. If your existing slab is sound and stable, a bonded stamped overlay may be the better fit — a project our concrete overlays page covers in detail. We help you decide which one applies at the estimate.

07Process

How the job runs

  1. 01

    Estimate and Design

A free in-home estimate, slab and site assessment, pattern and color selection, and a written scope before anything is ordered.

  2. 02

    Sample Approval

A physical sample in your actual pattern and color, approved by you before we order any material.

  3. 03

    Prepare and Place

Base preparation, forms, reinforcement and joint layout planned first, then the concrete is placed and finished.

  4. 04

    Stamp, Cure and Seal

Texture impressed inside the working window, then color detailing, cure, sealer, and your access times in writing.

Stamping has a working window measured in minutes, and forecast rain can shorten that window or require the pour to be rescheduled.

08Care

Cracks, sealing and long-term care

Every stamped surface ages. Here is what that actually looks like, and how we help you stay ahead of it.

Why concrete cracks, and control joints

Concrete moves. Control joints help manage where shrinkage cracking occurs, but they cannot prevent every crack — which is why they get planned into the pattern as a design decision, not left to chance.

Repairing a cracked stamped patio

Options run from routing and filling through to sawcutting a joint or replacing a section. A repair can remain visible, and movement can recur if the cause was never addressed.

We would rather find the cause first than fill the same crack twice.

Resealing intervals

Exterior sealer is commonly evaluated every two to three years, with penetrating sealers running longer than film-formers. Condition decides, not the calendar.

Routine care

  • Sweep and rinse so grit does not sit in the texture and abrade the sealer.
  • Use a neutral cleaner and skip unapproved acids and wire brushes.
  • Clean spills promptly, especially oil, fertilizer and pool chemicals.
  • Pressure wash carefully — the wrong tip and distance strips sealer and etches the surface.

Service life

A structurally adequate stamped slab is commonly planned around 20 to 30 years. That is a planning range, not a warranty, and the sealer on top runs a much shorter cycle.

09Cost

What affects the cost of stamped concrete

  1. 01

    Square Footage

Square footage establishes the starting point. Pattern complexity, site access and preparation also affect the final scope.

  2. 02

    Existing Slab Removal

If a slab needs to come out before we pour, demolition and haul-off add to the job — reviewed at the estimate.

  3. 03

    Site Access and Prep

Base work, grading, and how easily the crew, the forms and the concrete truck reach the space.

  4. 04

    Pattern Complexity

A single field pattern against borders, contrasting bands, multiple patterns in one pour, or a sawcut grid layout.

  5. 05

    Color System

Integral color, a dry-shake hardener, release and antiquing, and how many layers the finished design actually uses.

  6. 06

    Sealer Selected

A matte penetrating sealer or a wet-look film, plus any traction media for areas that get walked on wet.

We don't price a stamped patio without seeing the site first. The estimate is free, and you get the scope in writing.

13Questions

Stamped Concrete Questions Orlando Homeowners Ask

Does stamped concrete crack?

Concrete moves. Control joints help manage where shrinkage cracking occurs, but they cannot prevent every crack. We plan the joint layout into the pattern from the start, as a design decision, not an afterthought.

How much does a stamped concrete patio cost?

We price after seeing the site, not before. Square footage, pattern complexity, how many colors, and whether an existing slab needs to come out first all move the number.

Is stamped concrete slippery around a pool?

Texture and sealer both affect it, and traction media can be added where the surface gets walked on wet. It can be designed for improved traction, though no exterior surface is slip-free when it is wet.

How often does stamped concrete need resealing?

Evaluate every two to three years, with penetrating sealers running longer than film-formers. The signs are color looking flat, water no longer beading, and the gloss going uneven.

Can you stamp over my existing patio?

That's a stamped overlay rather than a new pour — a project our concrete overlays page covers in detail. We help you decide which one fits at the estimate.

What patterns can I choose from?

Ashlar slate, cobblestone, brick, wood plank, seamless stone, travertine and bluestone are the patterns shown above. We'll go through samples together at your estimate and land on the one that actually fits your space.

Does stamped concrete get hot in the sun?

Some. Lighter colors reflect more heat and make the biggest difference; texture affects traction and barefoot comfort more than surface temperature. We will not promise a temperature, because exposure and time of day move it more than the finish does.

What's the difference between stamped concrete and pavers?

Both can look similar once finished, but they behave differently over time. Pavers are individual units, so one that settles can be lifted and reset, and depending on the paver, joint and base system, the joints between them can allow some drainage. Stamped concrete is a single continuous surface with control joints instead of paver joints — no joint gaps to weed or refill, but a section that cracks or settles gets repaired rather than lifted and reset. We install stamped concrete, and for homes that already have pavers we offer paver sealing to clean, resand and protect them — so the right choice for a new project usually comes down to the look you want and how you'd rather maintain it.
